So I purchased a new CK35 HST this winter and have been happy with the tractor. It is the first diesel that I have owned and I am not used to the sounds a diesel engine make normally. I am have a lot of experience with gas engines but the diesels are a different beast. Attached youtube link is it is starting on a 40F degree afternoon after sitting for the night. The tractor only has 12 hours on it. Does this sound normal?

I have a CK2510 that seemed to make alot of noise when I first got it. Coming up on 30 hrs and I can tell the engine has toned down and seems to run alot smoother? BTW your video link says Private?

The smoke, the noise, the power.

It's fine.

The injectors on these motors do make you wonder but you'll get use to it :)

Sounds about the same as my DK 35 has on cold startup for the past 14 years.
Sounds normal to me.

Thanks for the info, gonna take a while to get used to what is normal for a diesel. What makes the "clanking" sound when it is cold?

It sounds about right running to me.. My DK might be a bit less noisy on initial start, and less smoke for sure. But did you run the glow plug cycle? On the DK it is a timed 8 seconds, the light goes out, and it actually "post glows" too after startup for about 15 seconds. I don't know if the CK has an automatic glow plug cycle or is it manual? When the temp gets closer to 0 F, it "cackles" more at start up and a bit longer to smooth out.

Yes that start was after the automatic 8 second glow cycle. It sounds a bit worse when it is cold, I started it when it was around 5 f and clanking last a while longer.

It sounds like you may also have some Clevis pins rattling around. I had similar fears until I found that my loader prop that's is stowed in the loader cross tube was rattling all around. I also found that the pins to the loader were also rattling.
