I've got the same Ruger rifle in 3006 with the old "boat paddle" stock just like yours Slacker! The newer ones have the traditional style stocks. Great rifle. I put a Timney trigger in mine for better trigger pull.

I would say the bigger deer is from up north. That's a heck of a big doe! But down south, with a long season...hunting is a way of life and not just a 2 week thing...

My buddy who just got back fromk Iraq took this young buck at my place in NC last night. His first deer.
.223 killed it where it stood with a spine shot. Gotta love the adjustable skinning rack.

Congratulations on the deer harvest, for a southern deer it is awesome! But if you like eating venison You All got to come up here to Michigan and shoot some deer.!! The southern counties have deer that dress out at 180-200 lbs with racks you wont believe. When we get a deer that size it still has spots on it.

Hillsdale county has monster deer. They have killed several of my cars.

Oh but bring something bigger than a 223 cause it ain't gunna do the job. A 385 grain sabot slug ar 1900 FPS will get the job done in the southern part of the state. In the north a 3030 is the minimum, but if you want to take no chances bring a 308 or an 30-06. We have way to many of these monsters.

A guy just up the road got a little 9 point, dressed out, weighed 207lbs. Usually for a doe in this area 160lbs dressed out is the norm and bucks are 180lbs. Of course there are many taken that go well above the 200lb mark.

D____ coyetes have been raising so much gain the last couple of weeks hunting around here is not so good. The coyetes have been comming right up to the house, they seem to have no fear.

I'm actually sitting here right now waiting for an officer to come and finish taking care of a deer that the*&*^*^ coyotes got after the other night {VERY SAD} She's in the front yard with her leg half torn off and roughed up real bad
