Thank you, it was a big part of the norwegian population that went to America back in the days to settle down.

Gudbrandsdalen I guess, the last letters "dalen" means valley :)

Yes, Knut, I'm sure that must be it. They first settled in Albert Lea, Minnesota and later moved to Ketchikan, Alaska. My grandfather was the Standard Oil distributor in Ketchikan. My mother was full blood Norwegian and I always regret that she never taught me any of the language. She never spoke Norwegian - I think it was that they all wanted to be know as American back in the days and felt that speaking the native language would detract from that. What a shame! You certainly have an excellent command of the English language. Have a good day.
