ADVENTURES * Memories / fun times - with it. C'mon, it was a Pinto. How much fun could anyone have in one of those things? About a year after I got it, I replaced the factory wheels with mags and some sharp white-lettered tires. Stopped by the school one afternoon to watch the cheerleaders practice. After a short while, it was time for me to leave, so I put 'er in reverse and floored it. Unbeknownst to me was the fact that after I parked, someone had parked about 2 car lengths behind me. The sound of crunching metal as the right side of my rear bumper hit the driver's side of her front end made me realize that maybe I should have looked in my mirror first. My coolness level dropped precipitously as this caught the attention of all cheerleaders and bystanders.
The car I struck was a 72 Nova less than a week old. It was a mom driving her oldest daughter's new car to pick up the younger daughter from cheerleading practice. She was upset with me, to say the least. Close inspection of the Nova revealed only a minor dent in some chrome trim on the front end. Inital inspection of the Pinto showed only a little scuff mark on the rubber pad on the bumper. Whew, I really dodged a bullet. Or so I thought. As I walked around to the passenger side of the Pinto, I noticed that the right rear quarter panel looked like an accordian. Long story short. Cost me $16 to fix the Nova. $250 for the Pinto. Couple of months to restore my image with the cheer babes.
