Not only did I have problems with a tire and my fel (see Parts/Repairs) and Widow Makers (see Safety) But yesterday some !@$#%*& stole my truck right outside my office in New Orleans (work in the city, live in the country). The truck was bad enough but what really hurts is the loss of all the contents. I had coats, clothes, tools, camera, power pack, air compressor, gps, check book, keys, toll tag, etc. - the more I think about it the more I remember was there. About 2K in value. The truck is fully insured. The contents might be covered under my home owners policy but I have a 1K deductable and if I file the claim it would be a chargable claim. If I file another claim within 5 years, I would lose my discounts (abt 20%). I spent all day today try to prevent any further damage.
The ironic thing is that the Feds are trying a New Orleans policeman for shooting a looter in the aftermath of Katrina. I wish I was on that jury!!!!!
Time for a large adult beverage.

That stinks!

A few years ago there was a string of robberies targeting contractors. The thieves would wait for the contractor to pull into HD or Lowes and then steal their truck/van. I some cases the truck/van had a trailer. The loss of the truck/van was bad enough but the lost tools could put the contractor out of business.

Some vehicles have been recovered by tracking the cell phone inside. I wonder if they can track the gps in your truck?

I won't even mention the feds trying the police, doctors and other first responders after Katrina and failing to arrest any of the thousands of looters or I would get this thread deleted. :(

Tallyho,
The cell phone did not have a sims(?) chip in it. I don't know about the gps; but I doubt that they could ID it. It was just a mid-priced Garmin. But I will ask the detective who is following up on the case.
Thanks to all who sent the well wishes. Everything happens for a reason. I just have to figure out why the @#$%^& did this.

GPSes track the users location. I know the GPSes I own do not provide any way to track the location of the GPS. Some cell phones do since they are computers that work as telephones. The cell phones can sometimes use both GPS sat signals as well as cell tower triangulation to find a users location. The cells towers can track that a given phone used the tower so you would know the phone was near the tower.

There are applications that I can put on the phone/computer that will track the phone/computer which could be handy.
