Norm,
Has your truck been recovered yet? Usually around here we recover them in a couple of days. Of course, they are abandoned and lots of times the contents will be located at pawn shops. Sorry for the loss.

Norm...sorry to hear this, hope some recovery happens for you.

Tallyho...since you were there, I believe your reports of behavior following K. Some reports were made up or just plain wrong thinking.

I've also come to realize that the "right to a speedy trial" has long since been abrogated...witness your reports of trials just now coming forth, so many years later. This, IMHO, is the true terrorist situation we are facing, considering how many people's lives are messed up for years awaiting resolution of legal issues. Rant.off to avoid political incorrectness.

Those insurance companys got us right where they want us,,don't they,,,pay, than if you file a claim, things change.

Remember when that hurricane hit you all down there, was working with some guys from there[or around there],they was talking[w.v. news],about getting some of them poor people you saw on tv,up here[and they did],,them guys I was working with told me you all don't want any of them,80 percent was drug addicts and thieves and worse,,,might have been something to that.

Not implying anything other than what they told me.

Nissan,
It hasn't been found. It is probably in Mexico of in ten different shops around here by now. Things will work out; I still have my tractor (but the bastards have my owner's manual - it was in the truck). :)

TexasJohn,
I got back into New Orleans about 10 days after Katrina. I wasn't able to get to my house in N.O. East because it was still flooded, but I did check on my office and some friends' property that was not flooded. The city was nearly deserted. It was like a ghost town. I was stopped several times by the police but I had the proper credentials and passes to be in the city. Everyone we saw was carrying. There were stop signs at the major intersections (no electricity) but there was really no traffic to control.
I know many of the police that stayed. They did a very good job under the worst of circumstances. Remember, they only had what they were able to carry for the first few days; Very little food or water, no sleep for days. They ran short of ammunition. A few policemen had to control several thousand people (who were told to evacuate and offered assistance to do so) in the Superdome and the Convention Center. The city government was paralyzed. Thankfully, the tourism and business districts were spared the worst and were able to bounce back fairly quickly. Many of the residential areas are still trying to recover.
Under Federal law, most crimes must be charged within 5 years. That is one reason why so many trials are being held now. The charges were not filed until almost 5 years. I just hope all goes well for those police and first responders who stayed and did their best to preserve some semblance of civilization. Second guessing 5 years later might be easy but it is not fair or just. Unless you were here during the chaos, one should not judge the actions of those who were.
Sorry for the rant (maybe not).

OK some levity in this horrible situation.

The family and I were on vacation a few hundred miles from home and we got a panic phone call form the neighbor saying that someone had ran sacked my pick up truck. The went on and said they called the Police and they took finger prints etc.

Well that's a great way to end a vacation early. We packed up drove home and the wife wasn't happy. Sure enough the truck had that finger print dust EVERYWHERE.

I opened the truck and looked around and was confused. The truck was just as I left it. Then it hit me. My truck ALWAYS looks like it's been ransacked - old burger wrappers, trash, stuff strewn about etc. Then it hit me. My truck was never broken into and ransacked, it was untouched - just as I left it.

I never had the heart to tell the neighbor that's what my truck always looks like. My wife didn't say a work, but the look she gave me has convinced me it's time to keep a clean truck from now on. Oh and now I owe her another vacation.

Tglass,
If you are asking about the Houston comment, My daughter who lives in Houston volunteered to help at one of the evac centers. Not one of the evacuees lifted a finger to help and when asked to help, just cursed the volunteers. The threw trash on the ground even when a can was nearby. They defacated and urinated in hallways. They wouldn't even put the cots up to sleep on; they let the volunteers do it.
The murder rate and general crime rate soared. The drug dealers from N.O. were shooting it out with the Houston dealers. N.O. students formed gangs and fought Houston students. Fortunately (for Houston), once the Texas police got a handle on the situation, they drove the druggies out of Texas and back to N.O. and surrounding Parishes (counties). Our crime and murder rates have sky rocketed again.

Cat Driver,
That is what the cab of my truck looked like. I carried more crap in the truck than you could imagine. That may have been what attracted the thieves.
