Not intended as a J.D. add, just came out like this as my Dad was snapping pic's after a long day getting close to finishing the "Hillside Retaining Wall" from projects (still can't figure out how to abbreviate the link).

Thought some might enjoy all the "Green". /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Nice gloves. Free maybe? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That the beginning of a 'great' wall?

beenthere,

Yup, free gloves, free hat, wish it were a free BH behind me too. BTW, after going through 3 pair of leather gloves, working on the wall, I pulled out the free J.D. gloves. They are actually holding up very well, working with the stone, dirt, getting muddy and drying w/o apparent damage. Pretty good gloves (especially for the price /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif).

Hopefully, two more afternoon's work and I can grade it off for the winter. Come Spring, we'll see if it's all still there. I never did find the $'s for a "Thumb" this year but, the FEL was indispensible for lifting the big stones and feathering them into basic position. Fine tuning then done with 6' iron and 18" pry bars. BH was too much power (or my inexperience in fine touch) for tweaking high large stones.

To take this a slightly different direction,...

The dipper and bucket on the BH are easily "feathered" gently. However, the lift and swing on the boom are fast and much less controllable. Does anyone know if there should be some adjustment in hydro flow (??) or...?? that would allow more precise/slower boom movement?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi

I don't know if this will work for the 46 BH, but on my 48BH, I do all my backhoe work at 2000 RPM's. I find that this is a little smoother on the lift and swing.

Richard,

Thanks. I max out at about 24-2600 rmp. I run the BH at about 1500. Plenty of power at that rpm and does keep it from swinging as fast as it would at higher. Less than 1500 is pretty slow on all other movements. Just wish the boom seemed more "velocity" tuned to the dipper/bucket movement.

You could look into getting some flow control valves into the hyd. lines that control that cylinder, then when wanting the slower movement, adjust the valves. When wanting the faster swing movement to dump the bucket, switch back to wide open flow.
Not sure if its worth messing with it, for the cost. Some flow control valves can get pretty expensive.

What you really want is for the flow control valve to be variable so as the boom gets closer to the stops it slows down.
