Re: One advantage of the BX..

I finally have my new BX2200 and, after only 5 hours use, can't believe what I've accomplished!

At this rate, I'm going to have all my (and my wife's) projects done by mid-summer!

Thanks again to everyone - your collective knowledge has really been and will continue to be a great asset! Hopefully, after a few more hours on the BX, I'll be able to give some good "advice" on this machine and its proper use.

CharlieBrn,

Can you try uploading that BX picture one more time?

Re: One advantage of the BX..

Just for fun, my wife took this as she was playing with the new camera, but it is an example of how stable the BX is on a hill. The picture is deceiving in that it doesn't look as steep as it feels, but when the dealer let me try a B7500, it was obviously going to tip, and I'd have to get this ditchbank head-on if I were to by that model. The BX feels just fine, with only maybe a little slip involved.

Now, of course, I don't recommend anyone do this with their BX, I'm sure I'm outside of Kubota's recommendation, but still I do it (with seat belt on, of course)

Re: One advantage of the BX..

Dave your picture is exactly one of the reasons I got the BX instead of the 7500. When I demoed the slightly used 7500 on my ditch, canal and lagoon and several other areas it felt very tippy even before I got onto the main part of the incline--the BX goes right in there and get the job done with or without the loader. I have one place that is a bit steeper than your ditch and deeper too--no way a higher center tractor could get in there. We give a little ground clearance to get a more stable tractor that is true but when guys like me and you tell people the BX really is more stable on hillsides and inclines, usefully so, it is not just hype on our part--it is a fact. Maybe someday after I finish my next airplane I will get a 2900 big wheel tractor to go with my BX small wheel tractor. I guess Kubota recognized the need for a small home owner tractor that is very stable, a place for everything, not better but different for different needs. J

Re: One advantage of the BX..

Actually, my first name is Scott, but your comments are well received and right on the money. The pic by my wife doesn't show an even steeperslope i have on the other side. that one makes me nervous, but the BX handles it just fine, with a little wheel slip perhaps if the grass is a bit wet.

As I said, i demoed a 7500. Just going into this area of the ditch, I started to tip, the right rear going off the ground before turning straight down to save the damage and embarrasment of rolling it. (another good reason to wear seat belts)

After everyone laughed at seeing my BX "garden tractor" as they called it, my neighbors and family are just in awe of what I've done with that little BX..they are used to my fathers L2900 getting jobs done, and here I am, doing 90% of what he did, maybe just a little slower. No more laughing on their part! And not only that, I can also mow my grass without ruts in the lawn. My father had to buy a ZTR for that....

Re: One advantage of the BX..

Yes, Glueguy I am. I have a Kitfox I completed in 96, I recently sold my 90% complete RV4 cuz the wife said she wanted to sit beside me instead of behind me, this after about 10 yrs of labor, will be sending Van's a big check soon for the new RV7A. Sorry for the non tractor post and yes I had noted your aviation interest, flew an EZE once--very nice machines, you still have it?. In fact, this Kubota infatuation has become an unsatisfactory distraction from the only thing in life really worth doing--flying airplanes. J

Scott (AKA CharlieBrn)
Thanks for reposting the picture.

Approximately what is the grade of the slope in your picture?
Looks steep to me. Guess you have a little more guts than me as I don't think I would have ever even tried that! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Noticed you have turf tires, do you think ags would hold any better?

Re: One advantage of the BX..

Not sure the degree of the slope, I'll check it when I get home. As far as the ags, I'm sure they would hold better than the turfs, but the turfs hold this slope just fine! It's a bit steeper on the other side, and even then the turfs hold ok. If i were to go steeper, maybe the ags would hold better, but what good would the ags be if i rolled the tractor? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Yesterday I put on the box blade, dropped the scarifiers and removed a lot of clay hills out back that were giving me trouble mowing...enough clay that it filled my box up and bubbled over the sides and back! All this with turfs! I can't see the advantages for me to switch to ags...the turfs have done everything I've asked for and more...without tearing up my turf.

Re: One advantage of the BX..

TesCrows,

Yes, I still have the EZ. Have flown it just about everywhere, but like you, the tractor gig is seriously cutting into air time... /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. Here's a pic of me in the EZ over the Pacific Ocean near Pigeon Point (roughly 1/2 way between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz).

Sorry to others for the diversion /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif. I can move this to off-topic if it gets out of hand....
