Mother always told me to "Bloom where you are Planted". I took that to mean "Make the best of your Situation" and to "Be Happy and always do your Best". More is not always Better.

Just got back from taking a walk in our woods, in the rain with my amazing and gorgeous wife of 26 years. We walked in the creek that runs on our property, threw sticks for the dog, and then ended the walk by picking out a spot for the 3 acre lake we want to build. Life is returning to normal and I am at peace with our decision. At least for now😀. I'm now sitting in my shop, drinking a cold one and thanking God for all of my blessings, one of which includes the good advice and collective wisdom of TBN!

Have a good evening y'all.

... when he talked about all of the things he had missed because he had stuff to do...

I work on something 7 days a week. For me, having a long list of things that I want to do is what makes living where I do, what I like. I have a lot of friends and clients that complain about all that they have to do around their house, and some of them hire me to do those things. While I'm at their home, a lot of the time, they will be there too, watching TV all day long. Some of them are a lot younger then I am.

Sometimes I wonder what else I could be doing instead of working on the land, but then I just can't think of anything else that I would want to do. On my birthday, I'm asked what I want to do that day, and I say that I want to go out and bush hog my trails.

Everyone has their passion, and mine is working on my home and my land.

I think you made the right decision. It sounds like you have a great place and there are a lot of projects on it to keep you busy and enjoying it. The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Good evening TBN. Wanted to give a final update to this thread. God truly does work in mysterious ways!!

From my previous posts, wife and I had decided to pass on a beautiful 361 acre timbered paradise due to it just being too much to handle since we are still a few years from retirement. Stopped looking, satisfied and blessed with our current place.

However, that itch wouldn't stop itching, and we continued to look at the pics, talk about the place and picture spending the rest of our days there. One week ago, about this time of night, we decided we were "gonna go fer it." I was going to call the agent and tell him we wanted to put in an offer.

Next morning, I got on the site as I had been doing every day for the last couple of months. THERE IT WAS!! An absolutely PERFECT 80 acres with a 9 acre stocked lake, trails, huge shop, food plots, easy access, etc. The lake even had a dock and a beach that my wife had always wanted!!

The property is very well maintained and will be easy for me to keep it that way until we build a house there (overlooking the lake of course) in 5 years or so. Price was less than half of the other place. All in all, a much better fit for us than the first place. And, unlike the first place, we have had ZERO misgivings about buying it.

We officially have a contract on it now, approved for financing and should have possession of it in about a month, just in time for me and son to scout out tree stand locations and then watch the leaves change in October. Needless to say, we are VERY EXCITED!

We plan to just use it as a getaway/vacation spot until we build. Guess the moral(s) of the story is never give up on your dreams, something better is just around the corner, and always trust God!!

Goodnight and God Bless.

"Chance favors the prepared mind".

WW2017 Sounds like you got your Utopia. Thrilled for you.

We moved from a subdivision to a 10 acre parcel about 3 years ago. Entire 10 acres is lawn. I need to go back to work so I can rest! (retired now). The location is great. 3 miles from a very nice small town of about 10k, but feels like we're 30 miles from anywhere with the quiet and peaceful surroundings. I'm 69 and in fair, but not great health. Heart issues. Even though you're much younger than me, I had a heart attack at 55. So medical care is definitely something you need to be aware of at this point in your life.

Have a great time at the new Utopia !!
