Not so good movies

I remember watching the test pattern on Sat. mornings before "Red Ryder" came on...Robert Blake was a kid that played 'Lil Beaver' on the show...

I remember watching the test pattern when I was inebriated.

You must be a youngster. We all watched the test pattern in the early days of TV. We also watched the National Anthem and the snowy screen after sign off...and we're talking a 12 inch screen that was so bright that your eyes began to water after about 30 minutes. Of course, every light in the house would have to be turned off. I remember one family on our block was the first to get a TV; as I recall, an old Admiral that could have been used as a search light. We (the whole block of kids) used to gather over there on Friday night and watch wrestling. We thought it was real! Villains were villains and heroes were heroes in those days.

My mother wouldn't let us watch TV without a light on, she said that we'd ruin our eyes. It was likely a later time frame than you are talking about but even back then ours was a vintage television. One of my first memories was watching JFK's funeral on TV... I would have been just under 5 at the time.

My folks bought our first TV in the early 50s. Seems the stores sold "TV lights" as a necessary item to be placed on top of the set. Ours had small ceramic deer and imitation foliage.

We had a remote control in the mid 60's, a huge box with a thick cable that attached to the tv, a motor changed the channels one at a time but there were only 3 available then, two knobs for volume and brightness, we thought it was luxury.

when you got rid of the rabbit ears and aluminum foil and got a outdoor antenna that was luxury.:drink:

We started watching all the academy award winners from 1st (1928- Wings) on.
I am amazed at how good they all are. A couple have been “meh” but the rest are fantastic. And topical. 1945 “Lost Weekend” showed the problems of alcoholism- long before leaving Las Vegas.
1946 “The best years of our lives” is about 3 returning servicemen. One who lost both hands. He was an actual GI who did lose both hands.
We are up to 1948 with Hamlet.
