Rox,

Sorry to hear about the accident, hope he recovers quickly.

I guess you will be having to do the work of two people for a few weeks.

I am happy to hear your husband is OK and also appreciate you sharing the tale with us as it is a good reminder - safety first

I cut a lot of wood with my 65cc Husquvarna with a 20" bar. I always wear my helmet with face shield and built in hearing protection. I also have safety glasses on and usually wear my cuttting chaps, cutting boots and gloves but sometimes when I am doing "just a bit" I forego the rest of the gear and just use the helmet. I will wear all my gear from now on.

Thx everyone. we kissed and made up over top ot the 3PH. mr rox couldn't get the rototiller on without plain 'ole rox. His wound really is ot doing well at all. It bled for a week. Now he has a nurse come over once a day and change the bandage. today was her first visit. She told him that it is starting to stink and that is not a good sign, that it smells. It jsut plain isn't healing at all. I ahve not looked at it myself. This is what the doctor says, my hubby and now the nurse. The gout is better though.

Too much use and movement will prevent healing. We often splint hand wounds for several weeks to make the hand useless, and decrease the temptation to do too much too fast.

Update ont eh chainsaw accident. About 2 - 3 weeks after the surgery the surgeon didn't like the way the wounds were not healing, I was taking him to the doctor 3 times a week. Then he asked to look at the medication form and the doc saw that no anitbiotics were on the sheet. Well the nurse said you never said to add them and the doctor said yes i did you made a mistake etc. well anyway he got on antibiotics for a week.

I jsut tonight looked at his wounds for he first time. The wound on his second finger is almost healed but on his index finger last week they burned the wound as it was still open and wasn't closing. He had the accident April 11th. So tonight I look at it and his index finger is still pretty darned swollen, it's pretty big. The burning did put a scab over it so hopeully it will heal under the scab but I don't like the fact that it is still so swollen, but the docs the one with the Medical degree not me.

Anyway folks jsut be careful with your chainsaws... I'll let oyu know when it is healed.

Rox,

I just came across this thread as it scares me to read most of the posts in thr saftery area. Too many inner voices telling me not to do just about everything I do, and it gets worse after reading everyones good advise.

I was worried about the wound not healing, but glad to see it was just an oversight on some meds.

What did you do with the chainsaw? Is it still sitting there?

Eddie

Eddie,
Thx for your thoughts. Actually the wound wasnot healing even after, along time after, he had the right meds. but now that they burned it it finally has a scab so we will see ow that goes.

it is funny you would ask about the chainsaw, he said that every time he walked by it it gave him he creeps so we put it out of site. While i was in the States he used the last 2 fingers of his left hand and thumb + his working right hand and used a Silky hand pruning saw and cut a pile 10ft long, 4 feet wide and about 5ft tall. Sombody on TBN posted about the Silky saws and they are fantastic. i think it will be a while before he picks up the chain saw again...
