Found this ad for a small tractor at a very tempting price. It reads.........

"1976 ford 1600 2 cylinder diesel 20 hp, runs but knocks."

Other than a rod, what would cause knocking sounds? Does anyone know what the availability of parts is for this tractor, and what kind of price range they fall in.

Could be an injector knocking...

The few I have seen for sale were 3,000 to 4,500 depending on condition. If it were me, I'd have to get it for 1,500 or less to make the risk worth it. There could be a fair amount of internal engine damage.

It sold before i called him yesterday. Of all the days to leave my glasses at the home. I could read the large type that said two tractors for sale 1800.00 I figured he wanted 1800 apeice, but he only wanted 800 for one and 1000 for the other, needless to say they didnt last long.

You might have saved your self a lot of trouble...Unless you are a Mech. and like to explore...Most people will try to make it by until, the unit is close to trash? Good picks need to be cheap and examined closely..No Parts for Diesels are very cheap..and ESp tractors.
