Hi guys, I was looking for a chain harrow (aka drag) for breaking up clumps of manure in my pastures. I ran across a spring tooth harrow, right down the road! What does it do (as in what does the ground look like after it has been used, the videos I have found are not very good)? Never heard of it, so not sure if I want it, the bidding ends tomorrow and it is definately in my "budget" at the current asking price. Ahhh, these are the times that I wish there was a YouTube/Wikipedia/Farm Implment cross-refrence.

It would work if you can set the teeth even with the ground or up about a 1/2 inch.
They are made to run thru the field after you disc and to smooth up the field.

Around here everyone just uses a nice piece of chain link fence and it works fine for very little cost,

The chain harrows work really well and do not damage your pasture when dragging down manure.

Ok, tell me more about this chain link fence "drag". Does anyone have pictures or directions to make? I just can't picture it being heavy enough.

Here's what TSC sells, there made with 1/2" material and are nice. I got a small 4x4 this spring when it was on sale.

Boomer, the farm has a 4x4ish, that is used to drag the ring with the ATV. But the barn manager (and her fiancé) have destroyed it, the metal bar was missing so someone rigged a wood board may years ago. The board broke last summer so someone used a lead rope to drag it around and then parked it in the weeds and left it (I found it the other day). I want something in the size that only the big tractor can drag, or something that I can say is only for the field. I have been drooling over a 8' footer. But am open to this chain fence one

So, I was looking online for pictures and found a design. I was thinking the pipe pieces were still on it and in some cases they are, but I see that they are also weighted with pallets or cinder blocks. Cool, now to find a fence, suggestions?

I think that spring tooth harrow might be too aggressive for what you are trying to do. Sandwich the front of a piece of chain link fence between two boards and bolt together. Attach a pull chain to the boards to connect to the tractor. Put a bunch of cement blocks on the fence to add weight and drag away.
