Thanks guys! They fit it in 8 loads. Totaled $2,180 delivered and spread, but that was enough to give us a decent skim coat on 4,450 ft of roads. Not the greatest spread job; driver apparently didn't have a lot of experience, so we got 4" in some places and 1/2" in others, but this was just to cover and smooth our well-traveled, highly-packed roads with a base of river gravel. The base has stuff up to about 2-1/2" dia, so it is a tad rough without some nice fines around it. I pre-graded with just a box blade to reduce most of the wheel ruts and slightly crown. We redo it about every 3-4 years.

Sister went to GA, I went to Ga Tech, so no BullDawg cheering around here!

Around here a 10 yard load is about 200 cu ft. Mostly just small private pits though, and bank run gravel is about 100$/load. If you buy enough they may even bring a dozer and level it for you.

We don't buy anything by the yard. It is all by the ton since the trucks weigh out before they cube out. A triaxle truck can only haul about 25 tons of 2A but that runs at about 500 delivered including the trucking the last time I got 2 loads brought in.

I've always wondered why the local yards always price and sell by the yard... guess it must be more profitable...

A yard can be anywhere from 3000 lbs to 3600 lbs as a rough guess... depending on material.

My little box trailer will take 1 yard... bigger loads come in a 5 yard dump...

In Olympia... the 5 yard delivered and tailgate spread is around $110

In Oakland... the 5 yard delivered and dumped in a pile can be $350

The only time I had the big 18 yard rig out was for dirt... the dirt was free... just had to pay for the driver's time from the site 1 mile away... brought 12 loads out during the week and moved it all the BX23...

All about location and how much a driver wants to make. I live near the limestone belt of southern Indiana and know a driver who works for himself, and the price reflects it. No middle man. He'll bring me any size rock under rip rap for $275 to home, $225 to the farm since it's only 15 or so miles from the quarry. His loads run from 22 to 23 tons. Same price for Ag lime if I ever find a way to spread it.

Nobody has scales around here; and the economy wouldn't support them is probably the biggest reason.

The local quarry/crusher is only about 12 road miles away. They sell by weight. They used to have their own (really good) drivers, but recently sold out to "Rogers Group" and now sub-contract delivery/spreading.
