I'm all smiles, enjoying the view cutting the open field at the very top of our very hilly property. I actually had the "how do you mow waist high grass?" thread in mind, as I was cutting weeds that were eye-high to me sitting on my 1540. The "post some pictures of hills" thread, too, since from where I was, the view of my house/lawn/barn looks like an aerial photgraph!

Then a bee (or wasp or whatever) stung me on the head.

Game over.

That has a tendency to make a good day go bad. I avoided a major one today. Was bush hogging trails on my Dad's acreage. He was traveling ahead of me on 4wheeler watching for stumps and large rocks, so we could widen them. We came to a open spot he wanted done. He was stopped, moving some blocks of wood. And I noticed what looked like another one just behind him. He looked and started waving excitedly for me to back out. Turns out it was a hornets nest about the size of a basketball. So we avoided ruining our day today!

Thanks for the laugh. Glad you ok.

I was cutting the side field this past weekend and brushed up against a nest about soccer ball size at ground level. It must have been my lucky day because they left me alone and after that, I sure left them alone!

As I was reading your story, tranquill little nature music started playing in my head. You know the one... the flute playing, the deer in the medow, butterflies in the breeze.... then a slap in the head.

You have very good story telling skills. :) Are you O.K.now?

Stings don't bother me too much. When I was 5 or 6 years old, I stepped on a nest in the ground in our backyard. The bees swarmed up my shorts and shirt. I remember running through the yard back towards the house, screaming at the top of my lungs. My mother, hearing all the commotion, ran out to meet me. She proceeded to rip my shirt off (both of us still running), and beat the crap out of me with it. I think we counted 27 stings after all was said and done. Spent the week caked in baking soda...

Maybe that immunized me to an extent? But my head is still sore today. And I haven't yet returned to the scene of the crime. There's probably 7 or 8 acres of those eye-high weeds up there, and they might just survive another season, if this is how I'm going to be treated!

The worst part was taking the slow ride back down the hill towards the house wondering if I'm allergic to whatever it was that just stung me (if in fact, it wasn't a bee.) Guess not!

But then, in the back of my mind I was thinking....too bad it was only one sting. A dozen or more and I might successfully lobby for a cab.... ;)
