Now I\'m confused ....Glide shift or FST

I was just about to pull the trigger on a 3830 Glide shift, but after reading the thread below, I 'm thinking about going to the FST.

I'm going to have a 723 loader but mostly for cleaning up, pushing brush ect...not heavy loader work at all. I'll be bushogging a 7 acre pasture, mowing a 3 acre vacant lot with a rear finish mower (no trees at all) and pulling a disk for
planting food plots around our farm and at a couple of hunting clubs. I currently have an L2500 with the old manual trans. which is not enough tractor for what I'm doing. I don't want to give up any pulling power since I do a lot of disking too, so I wasn't considering the Hydro.....now I'm wondering if the Glide shift is worth the extra cash, plus I want reliability & durability.......geeze, just when you think you have it figured out.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Any additional thoughts??

Re: Now I\'m confused ....Glide shift or FST

As I indicated in my post on the other thread, I came to the conclusion that I couldn't justify the cost of the GST transmission. It looks to me that for the purposes you listed, the FST would suit your needs just fine. There is no doubt that at certain times the HST would be nice to have and if you consider anything consider the HST. I just don't see enough added benefit from the GST to spend $1,000+- over the basic FST and you also add more complexity to your transmission system. Spend the extra on HST, attachments or more HP and torque (take that next step to the L4330 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ).

Re: Now I\'m confused ....Glide shift or FST

Thanks FarmNut,

The only reason I may still consider the GST is that my father
will also be using this unit & he wants something that is easy to use (but agrees that the hydro is probably no the best for our uses) & that the $ is not that big of an issue. I should've mentioned that in the original post. I'm sleeping on it tonight & going down to buy one tomorrow. Either way I'm excited!
Thanks again!

Tomahog, if money is not an issue, you may want to take another look at HST, particularly if your father wants something easy to use. It does have a lot of benefits. I debated whether to get it myself, but had already stepped up significantly in cost and HP to get the L4330, especially when you consider that I started out looking at the L3130. My father has a tractor with a hydro transmission and he loves it. For tight spaces with a lot of back and forth mowing and hills it is a really nice feature to have. I just had to draw the line in total cost somewhere and decided to get the L4330 with FST transmission rather than the L3130, 3430 or 3830 with HST. Again, for me, the GST just wasn't worth the extra cash. Enjoy your tractor shopping /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif .
