Good guess, the area covered is approxiamtely 1 acre, and the thickness is from 2 feet on the north side to 3.5 feet in the south.
Here are some pictures.

Why so much fill?
In 1997 we had the flood of the century which was compounded by a failure of our flood protection diversion. the result was our property was under .5 to 2 feet of water. The finished elevation in the last picture is 780 feet above sea level. This is 1.5 feet above the 1997 flood level. When we build our house this spring the main floor will be 783 and 1 more foot of fill from the basement excavation willl be layed on top of what you see now. When the neighbours saw all of this they said, "we'll now where to paddle to now"

Any real reason for a basement, sounds like it might turn into an indoor swimming pool. Even with the build up your basement will be under 4 - 6 feet of water if you get another 100 year flood. We've had 3 of these in the past 10 years, seems like they are no longer 100 year storms....

In this part of the world every house has a basement. So for resale value reasons we are putting in a partial basement (1,000 sq.ft) in the center portion of the house (3,100 sq.ft).
Your right about still being under water, under typical flood. Fortunately, this property only experiences momentary floods (2-4 hours). Under this situation this is minimal underground water infiltration. The flood is limited to overland flooding. However, it is very imprtant to have a good lay of clay around your house to protect it from such infiltration. Our clay, when packed is a virtual vapor barrier. They don't call it Manitoba Gumbo for nothing.
