Now That Seat Season is Here.

I have to level some fields, move some rocks, dig a pond for fill to make a new driveway and dig two new foundations. Drag some logs, dig out some stumps and plant some more cedar hedges. Put in a few culverts, help fix a road and maintain some trails. Not much!!!!!! But it is so muddy I don't dare move the tractor off of the driveway in fear of tearing the place apart...... @&^$^# mud season..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I am slowly taking out all the trees in my front yard and plan on leveling it. You can see the ground slopes steeply from left to right.
It would be faster to higher someone to do it, but this is way too much fun to let some one else do it. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

There is nothing pretty about rotted white birches and some really old pine tree termite hotels and I am not about to have some 70' +/- tall pines fall on my brand new $300,000 house, they are dangerously close. Plus I am trying to dry up some seasonal wet ground (not wetland) so I can level/fill it up.
I have plenty of hard wood, untouched in the other 1.5 acres behind the house. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think it would be easier for you to cut them down if you were alive.

If it is still wet when the buds open on the deciduous trees, and the ground has clay in it, then it is a wetland. Be sure to nuke it quickly before anywone sees you.

Highbeam,
I work with a Licensed Soil Scientist for the State of NH and we dug several 6' test pits and did two hydric soil analysis. Trust me, it's not wetland. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif When the road was put in (which you can see in the background of my picture), they put in a culvert to divert seasonal runoff. This only flows in Spring thaw and after weeks of heavy rain. With all the trees and rocks in the way, I cannot make a proper drainage swale to keep the water flowing to my detention pond, so it just spreads along my front yard and settles. With a 400' deep Artesian well, I won't need any of this water seeping to my groundwater.
But that is good advice on a beginners guide to wetlands. The type of trees and moss also point to wetland or not.

That's funny! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
