I was talking with my wife and just heard some wonderful news.

My John Deere Dealer (Stonehams in Waynesboro, PA) called and said that they were going to stop at our house to perform a yearly service call on my JD 4100. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I really don't remember them saying that they provided this service. Well doggies. This includes my MMM and the Landpride Tiller I bought from them. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I'll let you know how things go once they've finished.

TINSTAAFL - a new acronym I learned last night.

It is a typical service call. $30 bucks to back into the driveway, $xx/hr to service, and parts. Well, I've performed my 50 hr service and was more concerned about having the unit looked over for things that bothered me. HST squeeling - normal, FEL bucket not level to the ground 1-2 inches difference side to side - rear tire being low. Rocker shaft lever was binding - wd40 and adjustment. Everything else just fine.

Except for one small detail. I'd been working in a lot of dusty conditions and hadn't gotten a chance to check the air filters. So it needed one. Well, the wife didn't realize that I had one at the house.... so, badda-bing, there goes another $25-30!!

Oh well, ya live and ya learn. However, it is nice to know that the dealer will call you up to see how things are going and that they'll put you on a list for service calls. Can't complain about that at all.

Robert Heinlein always gave that as "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch!!", and while reading his often strange books I assumed it was said as a word....TANSTAAFL....easier to remember!

Another post just reminded me of the cost of service.

The final bill arrived a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't believe it. Just under $80.00. This was a complete fluid and filter check. They put in a new outer air filter. JD 4100 has two filters - outer and inner. I guess you could call it two-stage. They also greased all of the zerks, checked over the rotary tiller, and the MMM. No problems. But, $80.00 and a signed service call from the dealer - well worth the money!!

Yea I'd say that was worth the money. If I could come out and have them do my tractor for $80 completely serviced and check the implements I'd have it done. They charge you $150 here for the full service and that's with you taking it in. By the time I jerk around with taking it in and picking it up I'm time ahead just to do it myself.
