Two root causes.
The loader frame was put on wrong (or bent in abusive operations by the previous owner) and the unbalanced stresses were twisting the tractor with every lift. This is REALLY rare. Think using a 6ton floor jack to get the frame to align with the tractor, then bolting it up that way.
The tractor had a 3pt mounted back hoe. Much more common and in line with the damage done.
Personally, I would find a used HST and flip it in there. Probably under a grand for all the parts. That's not a big tractor, probably a 2+2+2 job. 2 guys, 2 days and 2 cases of adult beverage... Or a 2+1+0 job (2 guys, 1 day - no beer!)

Come on now! My Old Ford 4000 cracked the transmission housing and the differential housing. Even happens when there are gears in the case!

I can get a tranny casting for one of my old fords for cheaper than it will cost to ship it...
