Is Cook still “cooking”?

Yes, Cook isn't going anywhere.

I love nuc power...but I'm also deathly afraid of it. Big push with the microreactors by DoD, I'm not a fan of those at all.

I haven’t heard anything about Cook in a long time, and it’s got to be every bit of 50 years old.

I remember camping up there in 74 and it was already making power by then

I take that back it must’ve been after 74. I just looked it up and it was commissioned and 75 and 78.

And now that I think about it my 1977 F-250 four-wheel-drive was brand new so….

Lucky for you all. Will that supply your service territory?
Who knows? It and Cook are connected to a substation in Lakeville, IN, about 33 Miles SSE of Cook. That is the Dumont Substation. That is supposedly one of the largest substations in the US. Of course, our power prices will never go down. ;)

But they are pretty reliable, so I'm not complaining.

There's a small road on the south border of Cook that goes down to a beach. It was usually nice and quiet during the weekdays. Weekends was about impossible to get a parking space along the road after 9:00am.

That all stopped after 9-11.

I would thing that if the government is pushing something, everyone would be on board because the government is here to help us?

please look up the term facetious...

Had a friend who was on a project at cook and his ID badge expired while he was in the plant. Said he swiped his badge to open A door and was denied access.

He said he was very quickly approached by AR toting security. He had to explain that very nervously.

They don't joke

All our credentials are timed. I purposely expire my coworkers at lunch so they either get escorted to security or cannot get back in.

That’s a good thing!

I would say, in today’s regulatory environment, the Fish are probably as good at the discharge point as they are anywhere in Lake Michigan.

If they are discharging radioactive waste into the lake, the whole lake is polluted

Powerplant discharges are good for fishing because the water is warmer.

Every summer some clueless hikers wander into the clearly marked security area at Cook. They get an armed escort off site. The surveillance is pretty effective.
