All nurseries have temp range charts for your location as well as the same ranges for different varieties of the trees you're considering.

Consult those charts before deciding.

Didn't think of this I will have to see what some have. We don't have a good local nursery though so I was planning on ordering off line.

Consider Posey and Pawnee varieties of pecans for KY. It can be done, but you may not get a crop every year.

Thanks soggy bottom I will look at it.

2 lane and emb thanks I am glad to know that OK and KS can grow them. Our weather isn't terrably different. But soils are so I have more research to do.

I agree with this. Most producing trees require a certain amount of "chill hours". You would be best off checking with you're local Agriculture agent/department for recommendations. Fruit and nut trees are an expensive, long term venture. Took me 3 seasons to finally decide and find the ones that grow best in my neck of the woods.

You may want to look into you're state Gensing program and see what that is about, could be a money maker for you.

Don't know anything about ginseng. Looking at your links I seem to be on the western edge of the growing teratory. As all dealer but one are east of me. And he isn't too far away.

I had a large pecan tree in the yard in Maryland. The nuts were not large but very plentiful and tasty.

Filberts/hazelnuts are about the only ones that produce here... maybe almonds on the right kind of year.

Anyone raise Filberts that would recommend a particular cultivar?

Nolin River Nut Tree Nursery

Found this. Nice info.

Seems there are some varieties that were discovered not far from here.

Today is the first chance I have had to start on any research.

try TNnursery.com - just order some trees from them, good price and fairly close to your location. Friend of mine has had good experience is why I ordered from them.

Nice site too.
If you order from them keep us informed on their quality it is always nice to know about good nurseries. IMO especially ones w/ Pawpaws
Man the Pawpaw's and persimmon's are a favorite of mine. I would cover my property in both of these!
