Everyone likes to shop for a great price when buying a new tractor including me.IMHO the biggest factor when buying a new tractor is to find a great dealer who provides you great sales, parts and service after the sale.If I had to pay $500 bucks more for a tractor and have a great dealer it would be worth it to me.

Believe me, I wouldn't not do business with a dealer for $500 if I thought he was otherwise superior with his knowledge of product, helpfulness, service and/or parts, etc.

Having said that, my experience has been similar to what DK35 Vince stated as I have called 5 dealers within a 300 mile radius and have gotten prices between over $4,000 apart, so yes to some extent I am going to shop price.

If you are talking about the dealer in Caribou, that is who I got the second quote from which is pretty close to your number. My BIL has bought two tractors from him and is buying a third and seems happy. My wife grew up in Caribou so we visit there often. It might be time to do so again :D.

Yes I am. I've bought two tractors from him so far and I've been happy with the service and the tractors. Would recommend them.

With that said How much do you guys think a Dealer should "make" on a sale?? There is a "cost of doing business" that has to be figured in. Unless there is something I am missing a dealer has to make some kind of profit to keep parts in stock and to pay the employs that work on the units. Try running a business without profit and see where you wind up.

I must have missed the part where I said the dealer shouldn't make a profit :confused3:

My question was How Much Profit do you think a Dealer should make.
$500.00 on a 30,000.00 sale is less than 2% if it cost the Dealer 15% to operate he's losing money there are lots of other factors to include but we need to understand where they are coming from
If I were looking at a specific tractor and there were 2 Dealers pricing it and the difference was 500.00 I would be happy to pay that much more to the one who has better inventory and knowledgeable employs close to me. I have seen a lot of folks call and drive hundreds of miles past "Local" dealers with great inventory and quality employs for less than $100. And then they wonder why they went out of business

it's not up to me to determine what profit a dealer should make. That is part of his business plan. I said in my previous post that $500 would not make a difference if a dealer has superior knowledge, parts & service, customer service, etc.

When we are talking quotes that are $4,000 to $5,000 apart, yes I am considering that

Price shop first then compare 3 lowest priced dealers for service, etc. with the lowest bidder. You may throw out the lowest or even the second lowest bidder based on dealer support OR NOT. Sometimes the lowest bidder is also the best dealer.
$5,000 more for the same equipment would surely not be worth the money even if service is free for 5 years. No dealer should have that kind of profit in his sales plan and expect to sell enough to stay in business. Remember the dealer that is $4000 or more lower is also making a profit.

My experience with Kioti has been that some dealers feel that because it is a "value" brand, that they don't need to discount. Kinda nuts to my way of thinking. If Kubota dealers are discounting 10% or so then Kioti dealers need to discount similarly. I think the good dealers do discount relatively the same way as other brand competitors.

Thanks, I pretty much agree with and have done what you said. Right now the dealer with the best price has been the most knowledgable and helpful. I still have to get there in person to check it out.

There is a dealer that is closer to me and is $2,000 higher. They seem very disinterested in selling tractors. The salesperson on the phone did not know the prodcut they are selling. I said if they could get a little closer on price I would be willing to come in and talk to them.

They said the owner would be back in on Monday and he would call me to discuss further. Guess who didn't call?

In fact I have looked at and called several dealers for multiple brands and been astounded by the lack of knowledge of the product and level of interest and responsiveness.
