I have a nx6010. My owners manual list 10w-30 10w-40 and 15w-40 for oil, but has nothing about temperature range. I have scahffers 711 10w-30 that I use in my ford 6.7. Since the schaffers oil is pretty good you think it will be okay in my nx. I'm in pa so I have seasons. Also how many quarts does the nx6010 take with filter? Seems to list a few different numbers for that to. Thanks

use a good brand of full synthetic made for diesel oil, like Rotella T6 Diesel and you protect better at high temps and start/protect much better at winter temps. The precise viscosity isn't really that important any more as a good oil rated at something like 5w40 covers about all ranges. Synthetic oil is a remarkable product. I use this in all my vehicles, diesel or not.

I live in PA too. At another members, DK35Vince, recommendation, who also lives in PA, I've used Rotella synthetic T6 5W-40 for the past 11 years in my CK30hst. Great for the nasty Winter startups and handles the Summer heat. His DK35 probably has 2000 hours by now and mine is at 800. Walmart usually carries the Rotella at a fair price or go with schaffers if they make a 5W-40.

Is your Scahffers 711 10w30 oil rated for diesel engines ? If it is that's what I would use.
My tractor was shipped from the factory with 10w30 oil and I would bet so was yours.
I use Amsoil 10w30 small engine oil in my Boomer and all my other equipment. Also use 10w30 weight oil in my vehicles.

I use the Rotella T6 in my DK40se too. No complaints.

I also use The Rotella T6 in my RX6620 and my pickup. Good oil.

It's always better to have the lower value as low as you can get (within economic means- you can get 0w - XX, but it costs): most engine wear occurs during startups, cold startups especially, so having a better flowing fluid in these conditions is best. 5w-40 should be fine. I will use (in any of my diesels) T6 Rotella 5w-40 or Delo 400 LE 5w-40, depending on price. Not sure what Kioti's requirements are for changes, but this newer stuff can absolutely hold up: I've sent oil samples in to Blackstone Lab for my (older) VW TDIs and I'm good for easily 12k miles (if not 15k miles), though I stick with VW's specified interval of 10k miles.

Most synthetic oils have a pour point of around -50°f. That'd work in an Arctic wind storm. Conventional oil at even -20°f is like molasses. Your starter has to fight through this, then your oil pump struggles to move what little to none will cooperate to the upper critical parts of the engine. Unless your religiously using a block heater, where the seasonal weights of your oil become of concern and startup is sufficient. But it's not as good as it could be. Synthetic oil is thinner and at identical temperatures it still has a much higher flow rate and, hence, it's just that much more easier to move. The higher cost is far outweighed by the increase in engine protection and the versatility of all season protection in one suitable grade. Add to this a synthetic media oil filter and the greater durations between oil changes only compliments your wiser decision.

I used to own a 53' reefer trailer and sometimes it would sit out in -30 temperatures in gale winds. With conventional oil it would preheat, then make one attempt to turn over and with a loud click it would fuse the plates in the battery, destroying it. The answer was synthetic oil, like Shell T6 or Mobil15W-40 and an AGM battery. It would start every time after that.
