Sinned yesterday and hosed/washed my tractor :ashamed:. I did not sin enough to use soap or wax  I tilted the seat forward for quicker drying. This a.m. I tilted seat back and cranked her up. Noticed that the seat was not level from left to right. Put her in M gear, moved forward and engine bogged and killed on several tries. Tilted seat forward revealing right seat belt was pinned under seat. Corrected it and she ran fine. I think the PTO safety cut off switch might be on right side under seat and she thought I had left the seat ( right leg pedal pressure raising butt cheek ) with PTO engaged. Make sense ?

p.s. tractor has always run whether or not I am wearing seat belt ( a pox on safety police :D. )

i would think more of an operator presence seat switch than the pto switch.. but.. I don't have a schematic in front of me.. so just speculation..

I gave that some thought, but a few things confused me although I 've never tried to start tractor standing on ground with seat tilted forward. I have started it many times standing on ground with seat in operator position. I also know if I sit up off seat with PTO engaged engine stops. It is very possible that the slight level difference caused an operator not present situation and weight of seat in normal position being enough to indicate operator presence.

Think I 'll go tilt seat back now and try to start while standing on ground. Will report back.

Thanks for the feedback !

Soundguy good call ! As safely as possible, I tilted seat, started engine, placed in M gear, standing on ground pushed forward pedal. Sure 'nough engine killed. Another Ralph Nader device :) . And no I ain 't gonna disable that particular one. I value my appendages .

Thanks for making me a smarter man than I was yesterday .

well now i really shouldnt tell yall the tricks i learned awhile back because they are dangerious.but you can start the kubota from the ground.with just hand pressure on the seat.an put it in gear an move it by pressing your foot bar farward or backward.as far as i know there is a safty swiitch also under the seat for the pto.i learned them from the kub machanic.

I figured that was what it was.

glad none of my oldes have it. bouncing around in a pasture on a pan seat with an OP pres switch would be like a bucking bronco!

be safe/..

yep I can start it from the ground and don 't even need to put hand pressure on the seat. I do like to do that just to let her warm up while I 'm finishing my coffee. I got no reason to ever want to move her if I 'm not in the seat so that 's safe enough for me.

yeah, I had that problem with my little MTD lawn tractor 'cause I only weigh a buck 32. Took care of that small problem when I found the switch. Still hate that I can 't mow with it in reverse, but left that switch enabled for my better half 's safety .

The seat switch is there to prevent you from standing on the ground and just reaching over to move the tractor forward or backwards 1/2" while changing 3pth impliments. As long as it is connected you have to climb aboard, sit down and then move it that fraction of an inch. That way it is safe!!!
They are also there to stop you from standing up so you can see your FEL when you are trying to do something stupid, like trying to get too close to your garage while clearing snow.....You should climb OFF your tractor, walk around to the front, measure your distance, then climb back on, and move ahead the 4" that you need to hook that drift and drag it back, the SAFE way.
