Odd rockshaft behavior

Billyo, I think you have a problem with the adjustment of your linkage. It is doing precisely what you think it is. When it is adjusted properly, you should be able to lift the draft arms another 1/2 inch or so. It is now going against the stop and putting the system in relief. It is a simple adjustment, but make your dealer do it if it is in warranty.

Jeepinator, It sounds like you have a bad seal on the lift piston or a defective control valve. I haven't seen 3000 series with this problem yet but someone else might have.

I also have 3320 it had the same problem. The dealer came to the house and could not find the problem. So I took it to the dealer where it stayed a week. When I picked it up it stil had the problem. To make a long story short I had to fix the problem my self. The problem is the relief valve on the three point hitch. It is not sealing right I took mine apart myself and recut the seat. The dealer can just install a new one. This will fix the problem.

Thanks for the info everyone.
If it lasts until summer's end, I'll be sure to have the dealer fix it under warranty. Having a dealer fail to fix something would make me pretty angry. That kind of stuff gets me fired up. They'll fix it to be sure. And smile about it too :D

I'm also having problems with the rockshaft on my 3720. 26 hours on the machine, but I just started using the 3pt. 3pt raises at a 'normal' rate, but the drop rate was getting progressively slower over use time. Adjusting the rate control valve didn't seem to affect the drop rate. It was taking minutes to lower a rotary cutter. Frustrated, I decided it was a good time to take a coffee break and shut the machine off. After my break and referencing the manual, I started the tractor back up and the rockshaft was working to my satisfaction. Not for long. It went back to the previous slow drop rate. On level ground, I set the park brake, put the machine in neutral and operated the rockshaft from the ground where I could clearly hear a hiss/and the sound of what I perceive as a strained hydraulic system. It was a different noise than when the rockshaft drop-rate valve is in a locked position and you try and operate it. It sounded more like an issue on the suction side. I then started to fool with the drop rate valve, and cycled it from slow to fast (to the stops) numerous times. Afterwards, the rockshaft has been working flawlessly and no hiss. I'm speculating that a partical was clogging the valve. I'm planning fluid and filter change at 50 hours when I do the oil. I'll post back to share my findings, or if the gremlin comes back. Other than that, I've been real happy with the tractor.

I have a 3320 and have not had this or any problem with the rockshaft. I have about 105 hours now.

Billyo:
JD110 mentioned that you should have your rockshaft adjusted so it doesn't hit relief when the lever is all the way back. The reason your tractor and mine behaves this way is because we have backhoes. When the dealer installed my 448, they set the stopping point of the rockshaft to match the exact point that you would install the pins for the backhoe while mounting it. Otherwise, everytime you were mounting the backhoe, you'd have to play with the rockshaft lever to find the right spot that would allow you to slip the pins in. I figure we've lost very little in the max height we can raise the rock shaft (have had no issues with any of my impliments) and it's easy enough to not pull the lever back all the way to avoid hitting the relief point. I much prefer it this way since the backhoe mounts in a snap. Just wanted to give you something to think about before you decide whether or not to change it back.

About a month ago I finally sent it in for repair (along with a broken locker mechanism and leaking front axle seals). I am stupid for not knowing exactly what they did to it. I was a bit busy when they returned it, etc.
But basically it still does this burp thing, but with much longer intervals and no noise. And it is much less noticeable. I am sure it will get worse with time, but I still have a year left on the warranty.

I have a 3320 with 130 hours and have not see or heard what you are describing, hissing is fluid passing somewhere eather thru a spool or a check valve and if you are not engaging and handles I would call that not normal! I work offshore and we use a lot of hyd's. My concern with that type of behavior on any hyd system is wear and my experence is that type of thing just gets worse with time. May be just a simple adj to get everything aligned properly with all handles in the netural position but I would get it back to the dealer while it is in warranity

Sadly, this thread now applies to my tractor. With any implement hanging off the iMatch the 3 point cycles leaking down slowly with a hiss followed by a rapid reposition up. It doesn't matter where the rockshaft lever is positioned or what the engine RPM is snd for added fun I'm out of warranty.

Your tractor 3 pt problem could be rockshaft piston seal or control valve failure.
