I'm about to buy a 50 to 60hp compact tractor with backhoe and considering Kubota, Kioti, Massey/Iseki, and probably not but maybe TYM. I would love to hear your feedback if you've operated more than one makes' backhoes to compare.

Kubota seems to be an outlier with their loader hydraulic valving configuration which affects how they operate. You wouldn't know this from reading a spec sheet. This isn't a big deal to me personally, it's just an example of the sort of feedback I'm looking for on the backhoes.

So how comparable are the backhoes? Not really fussed on whether it's an 8.5 foot or 9 foot hole etc, I've read all the spec sheets, more so whether they are a pleasure to operate and easier or more difficult to get an accurate controlled dig out of them.

I'm looking at the KB2485, BH92 and CB85 from Kioti/Kubota/Massey, but differences (or not) between other makes like LS or John Deere are still useful as an overall indication.

Bonus points I guess for installation and removal. Massey and Kubota seem similar in that the 3PL needs to be partially or fully disconnected, but appears to be easier to mount/store the actual backhoe. In practice, not sure though.

DK5810, L4600, L5740, MX5100, 2850/60 E/M if that's relevant at all.

Thanks!

I'll try to respond as I understand your questions. Keep in mind my experience is Kubota and Mahindra. I will not buy another Mahindra as my experience with the Max 24 TLB has soured my opinion of the brand. Its a low cost tractor that suffers in too many areas to appeal to mass market solely based on price. I will elaborate if requested. The Kubota M59 at 59 hp has been a versatile machine and I have adapted the backhoe using a special quick attach coupler so I have full access to all the Kubota KX excavator tools as there are many used and new tools available in market at reasonable prices in USA.
My personal M59 weighs in at 11K+ pounds plus due to loaded rear tires and what I'm using on SSQA or bucket on hoe whereas the standard M59 weighs 8344 pounds.

I'm confused as to your comment about loader hydraulic valve configuration as I have no issues with using loader and many other SSQA ( Skid Steer Quick Attach ) implements including grapple, Auger using 3rd function on FEL control stick.

The DK5810 hydraulic pump total capacity is 55.1 L/ minute and appears to have a single hydraulic pump from DK5810 | HST. The KB2485 digs to 94.4 inches deep with bucket curl force of 3748 pounds
The M59 has 3 hydraulic pumps for total output of 100.9 l/ minute with one pump dedicated to HST and other pumps dedicated to FEL or Hoe functions. The M59 digs to 144 inches deep with bucket curl force 7602 pounds.

Kubota no longer offers the M59 as the M62 is the latest with a 14 foot dig depth.

I won't comment on the L4600 as it is a lower hp than your stated 50-60 hp range.

The L5740 is a tractor only and does not have either FEL or hoe which begs why it being considered when the M59 and M62 are both TLB ( Tractor Loader Backhoe models ) which is your stated preferred configuration.

Same comment applies to the MX5100 as the L5740.

I'm not understanding reference to 2850/60 as Kubota, Massey, and John Deere all make a model 2850.

Machine total weight is your friend. When digging with FEL or the hoe, the higher the total machine weight the better. Weight provides stability when loaded and greater traction when filling front bucket and keeps outriggers planted so backhoe does not drag machine around.

Hope thinks makes sense and is of some help in narrowing your choices.

Bottom line. Have a great dealer and informed experienced service department with short lead time on parts is probably equally or more important than some of the differences in TLBs.

Thanks for taking the time to write all that up. Your M59 with quick attach sounds fantastic and would really suit me for a couple of years while we do some construction. For a few reasons though I really am after a run of the mill compact tractor (budget, fold down ROPS, availability, and for better and worse, lighter weight).

FYI, all of the tractors I listed have an oem (removable) loader and backhoe option. They're not TLBs, but I understand that.

2850/60 refers to the Massey models I'm looking at.

Some helpful feedback nonetheless, thanks.

And just for clarity in case anyone is wondering how I'm looking at an L4600, L5740, DK5810 etc, I'm buying new but Australia is still selling 10 year old models (no tier 4 emissions requirements here). And Kubota, Kioti, and Massey are my locally available dealers.
