Of all the tractors which is the best deal used???

I think this depends on the area, because up here MF has one of ( if not ) the highest resale/trade in values on the market!!!!!!

I had the same idea and shopped the used market before buying. Used 4wd tractors hold there value so well, that after 2 years of looking, I ended up buying new. Financing was better for sure. Some of the used ones I could have bought had sat outside a couple of years and really showed the worse for the wear. Even 5 to 8 year old tractors with 1000 to 2000 hours on them were priced within a few thousand of the new units. Sure surprised me.

I normally try to save the initial depriciation on cars by buying 'near new' models (1 or 2 years old). This works in the automobile market, but for me it did not pan out for the 4wd tractor market.

I had the exact same experience as Moon. The used 4x4 tractors were not significantly cheaper than a brand new one especially considering the wear factor and then the rebate and finance rate of a new one.

Buying a one or two year old car saves you significant money, but this does not seem to be the case with compact tractors. My wife bought her new (2 year old Jaguar mint condition) for $27,000 less than the original purchase price. Talk about someone taking a hit...

My experience exactly as the previous two posters. I was looking for a 1-2 yr old Orange or Green 30 HP +/- 4WD tractor. That happens to be the size most of the landscapers etc use up here. I looked for six months and all over No MI. Nothing even close to that could be found so I ended up buying new ( a GL 3010). Hope you can find a deal on what yr looking for -it happens. But I wouldnt be holding my breath for toooo long. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Good Luck.

Just so you know, I don't have any property yet, Just thinking about buying some 100 acres in WV and made a trip down to Charleston last weekend to look at several lots with a realtor. Hilly country!!!! Hope to find 100 acres with some pasture and mostly woods.
My wife thinks I'm crazy cuz she says I don' even know if I'll need a tractor yet!!!! What do you guys think?? Do I need one or what???? Do any of us need one????

My opinion? You're definitely going to need a tractor if you buy land in that size range. So . . ., I'd be shopping, visiting dealers, etc. however, I'd wait to buy anything until the land is bought because the amount of land, type of terrain, type of soil, type of vegetation on it, exactly what you intend to do on it, and things of that nature will determine what size of tractor, what accessories and/or implements would be best.

I'd be looking at who is a major player in your area. All have higher then average resale where there are strong dealers. Any of the brands without a strong local dealer will be cheaper. To go out of your area where there is not a good strong dealer for that brand and buy the brand that is strong in your area you will benefit from it. Look out for models that only lasted two to three years as that is a sure indication of a lemon or just a tractor with problems. There have been quite a few just in the past ten years that the majors have introduced that have actually increased the older models price for those who are color blind.
