Off Brand hydro fluid failure??

Older tractor were designed to use any petroleum product for hydraulics, most were gear pumps that are very forgiving. Some tractors used the crankcase oil in the hydro system. Today's tractors with the hydro-static transmissions with common tank with the hydraulic system, the fluid spec is for the transmission with its close tolerances and small orifices.I use a NAPA oil in my BX that claims to meet the spec. 1500+ hours and no problems. Its a convience matter more than price although with the NAPA pricing I save well over half from OEM Use their filters also at over half price from OEM. Could tell no difference in performance or sound from the OEM product.

What really amazes me today is that people do not realize that ANY oil is better than NO oil.

I knew a guy that checked his final drive, did not have the right oil, but needing to get work done, ran it anyway. By Noon his $30,000 final drive in his feller-buncher had seized up. He would have better off to dump a few gallons of bar and chain oil in the final drive then run it with nothing in it.

He asked me if he could use my feller-buncher, and I said no, not if he is that dumb, he is not using mine!
