Off road diesel/fuel delivery/etc

Hi Patrick,
I'm by the Quad Cities. That's the problem with alot of these rumors about checking diesel they are just that. I hear it all the time and in fact at the last horse sale I was at there was actually a guy there selling locking gas caps based on this rumor~! I asked him if he could give me the names and places where this had happened, checking at cattle and horse auctions. He said oh it's happening everywhere. I said give me some names and I'll by a dozen of your gas caps. He just walked away.

Dubuque is not far away. We're doing an adventure race up there in October. Nice up there. Not as hot in the summer and they have a few more hills up there. There is a great place up there called Yellow River and Little Paint that is great for horseback riding and trout fishing. We try to make it up there a couple times over the summer.

I've got two issues with using a big tank & off road diesel. One is that off-road is hard to find around here. Not too big a deal, as a couple of neighbors use the off-road stuff, and have it delivered. The second problem is that I don't use enough diesel to keep it fresh. Mine is a B7500, and it really SIPS the fuel. It's taken me 3 months to use about 15 gallons.

Ah, Glueguy, having a big tank is great. It "forces" you to use the fuel to keep it fresh. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif More seat time!

Large trucks are required to pay taxes (via fuel purchases) to compensate for the larger amount of damage they do to the roads.

Since pickups are not required to pay such taxes (at least not here in WV) there should be no issue with using either type of fuel.

Thats not to say however, that our revered government leaders did not make it illegeal just for the heck of it /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My Kubota L4610 holds a bit over 9 gal and when worked hard can burn that in a day. A little biocide and fuel stabilizer and I don't anticipate any problems regarding deterioration in the length of time I will store it. Might not even need the stabilizer but fear the filter cloging junk that grows on diesel with a little water, some kind of algae I think. I've seen what it can do in the marine environment and I will get condensation in the tank so...

Installed a 10 micron dirt and water filter so that will prevent puting anything nasty in the tractor. remains to be seen how long the filter at the tank will last. Kinda expensive for the water stopping type so hoping for long life.

Another plus is the convenience of filling with a nozzle and not climbing up on a front tire with a jerry can and trying to get the fuel in the tractor not on it. If I had a thrifty sipper like your's I'd probably opt for a 55 or 35 gal (maybe smaller if consumption were realy low) drum on a raised stand and do basically the same thing I'm doing now. It is just too convenient, easy, and I don't spill.

I don't know if they can detect the dye in diesel fuel by testing the tailpipe, but I do know they have test strips that detect lead in gasoline fueled vehicles. The lead additive coats the tailpipe and stays there forever. It is NEVER legal to run leaded gas in an unleaded fueled vehicle.

TBone, What a deal, 89 cents, seems pretty good, until I realize what one of your gallons would be after it cooled off and was dehumidified, probably a pint short. Just kidding, it has been real hot and humid everywhere I have been for a couple weeks, including South Central Oklahoma, Dubuque, Iowa and points in between (like Kansas City). I was actually rained on a couple times in last two days. First while driving home through northern OK but not enough to clean the windshield and again this morning just before lunch (dinner if that is the mid day meal in Mississippi). The rain today was a 3 inch rain. By the time it was over the water spots in the dust were about 3 inches apart.
