Off-road diesel in a school bus???

They give you a certificate so you don't have to charge them tax, however, you still have to pay tax on the fuel that is used in the machines that are doing the work. If the school busses are privately owned and are contracted to the school department, the fuel would be taxed. If the busses are owned and operated by the school department, then the fuel wouldn't be taxed. The question that has yet to be asked or answered is "who owns the school busses?".

Ours are off road machines.. thus dyed.. and non-taxed fuel anyway..

Around here the school busses are owned by the state for public schools. Amazing I thought this was a yellow color war and it turns out to be a tax thing /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ummm, actually you'd think so, but not always. As crazy as it seems, we have a vehicle with a non-working propane conversion that we have to pay the state almost $100 every year. It's for a "propane stamp" and it's nothing but a tax. Since my office is a state office, this doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. Oh, and we have to pay to get our vehicles inspected every year too and get current inspection tags.

Not to mention the fact that we buy fuel at the pump just like everyone else. There's a lot of taxes there as we all know.

We are exempt from sales tax. At least that makes sense.

i know that here in connecticut the state trucks use dyed diesel, i remember my father telling me how a few years ago they had rented a box truck and when they were ready to return it they had to fill it up of course and did so with the dyed diesel, he was saying he sure felt sorry for the guy that rents it next if he happens to get pulled over, especialy since the red color would still be detectable for a few fillups after that
