I have looked into refunds for off road use of vehicles and equipment and found that it's very difficult to do. I use 200-300 gallons of gas in the boat every year, and would love a refund but it's a lot of work. I'd like to find out of they can sell me off road gasoline in bulk delivered to the farm. Then I could fill the boat and mowers from there.
I run a marine business plus own a couple of boats and have looked into this. I use about 500 gallons of fuel a year for the boats and talking to my fuel distributor and tax lady, its not worth the hassle.
With the tax thing its a big pain in the butt to get back about $50 per year.
With having off road gas delivered the cost was actually $.03 more per gallon than the cheapest station within 5 miles of my home. Reason? Supply and demand. While I can save $0.45 on average per gallon using off road diesel they just do not sell enough gas to keep the price down. He said he sells 10,000 gallons of off road diesel for every 10 gallons of gas he sells. I have 2 local suppliers and they both have the same story.
Long and short is gas just is not worth it. Its more dangerous to store plus I would have to buy a second tank setup. It does not store as well, 90 days max versus a year or more with diesel. And there is no $$$$$ savings, just convenience.
