I built a torsion axle trailer for off road use behind my mule and for hauling the mule.
Torsion axles are mounted in a rubber filled tube. Each side is independant, so if you hit a bump on one side the other is not affected. That gives a smoother ride on rough ground. They also have no axle across the bottom so there is more clearance. I built a 5x10 bed with a rail for about 500 bucks about 10 years ago. I don't know about the "walking axle", but the torsion is light years ahead of a buggy sprung axle!
