Welcome aboard. Diesel? Run off-road diesel if you can find it, I just got 20 gallons for $1.39 per gallon. Your engine will love you for it... stations that sell kerosene may also sell off-road 'dyed diesel'.., I get mine at a local Hess.

The offroad stuff has a red dye in it and isn't taxed the same as the auto diesel, so it's cheaper. Otherwise, makes no difference to your tractor.

Has a higher sulfur content, thats why its for "off-road use only."

The original definition of "off road" was because it didn't have the "on road" federal excise taxes included in the price. It's only relatively recently that "off road" diesel fuel has had a higher sulfur content and that's because the sulfur content of "on road" diesel fuel has been lowered.

I still would like to know how putting the red dye in the clear fuel affects the sulfur content.

I also don't see any logic in having diesel fuel with 2 different sulfur contents.

So then did we have off road and on road with 2 different sulfur contents prior to this?

The red dye doesn't effect the sulfur content, the sulfur content is based on the refining and is set before it is dyed.

surely the red dye is for enforcement reasons. so if people run it in their road vehicles they can be "caught". and to prevent accidentally putting it in the wrong tank.
