I have added a 60" rotary cutter and for both security and weather protection, I want to get that rascal inside my country barn \ shed during off seasons (squeezed in between boats and other "stuff") I am leaning toward adding a couple of vertical posts and leaning the cutter on its right side agaiinst those new vertical posts and using a come-a-long to get it on its side and leaning up against those newly added posts and then add some chains to secure the high side to those new posts.

The cutter weighs somewhere between 500 and 700 lb depending which which BOBCAT booklet that I am looking at.

Any additional thoughts about the cutter spending the winter on its right side or other thoughts about this scheme?

Thanks, Ed

There was a poster that had one standing up on end with a pulley system

Shouldn't hurt the cutter, but make sure the gear oil can't leak out of a vent.
Also, pulling the cutter up against those poles might not be too bad a job...but will you be able to lower the cutter as easily? If the side skirts are on the floor or ground...might be a tough job pulling the cutter back out. Just something to consider...

Why you have to be such a Idiot? That's NOT the link as this was recently.

I was BORN an idiot.

Murph------ Cranky today?

I have searched and searched but have not found another relevant thread in the T-B-N archive.

Do you remember a KEY WORD or two from the title?

I searched too but alas cannot find it either. The search feature in this blog sucks. Hopefully you will get better too.

I bought a cutter this year. I was going to store it outside with a tarp on it, but I just couldn't bring myself to leave it outside.
I wasn't worried about someone taking it, just bothered my to leave it out in the elements all winter. I ended up making enough room in my lower garage and was going to leave it on a dolly, when I realized it would store very nicely on end taking very little room.
