Off to a great start to showing our Akita!!!

More good news. Kami competed in Belton TX this past weekend and took Second Place in Group!!!! For all of you that are not familiar with AKC shows, this is huge. She has one Best of Breed 7 of her last 10 shows. Usually the male wins and the female gets whats called Best of Opposite, so for that many Best of Breed wins is also very special. Then all the dogs that won their Best of Breed showings compete against each other in Group. Akita's are part of the Working Group. AKC has seven groups. There are 30 breeds in the Working Group.

We are very excited about this!!!

Next week she will be competing in Austin TX


This is Kami with her Group 2 ribbon and her professional handler. We hired her to show Kami because at this level, there are too many subtle things to know and do in order to win. Karen got Kami her Champion title in 4 shows, and does pretty good, but she knows how much better a pro is, and for her to get her Grand Championship, we're paying for the best.

Another show question, how much time does handler spend with your dog. My coworker showed her dog and it took a couple of years to get her needed wins

Thank you. Since Kami is still just a puppy and she just started showing back in March, we wanted our handler to spend as much time with her as possible. She is staying with her for two weeks and hitting three shows. Canton, Bolton and Austin. Between shows, she works with her several times a day. She also has play time with other dogs that Kami likes. The video she sends us are great, they are running and sort dancing with each other!!! Kami was a natural in the ring, which is how Karen, my wife, was able to get her Championship in just four days, but Karen isnt experienced enough to see little mistakes. The handler sees what we don't, and fixes them.

The latest breed rankings are in and Kami is now the Number 17 Akita in the Nation for All Breed, and number 20 for Breed.

What's really amazing is that she is just 17 months old and competing against 4 to 7 year old dogs with up an average five years experience in the ring!!!!

She will be competing in Conroe and Ft Worth next month, and both should be Major shows with the potential for some really big point

To me they are just Best Buds. I'm fine with a mutt.
