Dave,

I tried it out with the FEL on (~600#).

I first tried the aerator w/o any weight. It was pulling 3/4" plugs. With the 480# of ballast it pulled 2" plugs out. Might add more. The tractor (18HP) had no problem pulling it, but you could feel the weight in the back. My three point is rated for 1,200# I was at 850#. I could make gradual turns, but not sharp ones. 4WD was needed on hills.

Overall pretty happy with it. Build quality looks good. Paint is excellent. Don't judge by my cheap camera pics.

A couple of minor complaints. 1. No owners manual, 2. one of the zerks was broken. and 3. no top link pin or lynch pins included. The top link pin I have for my rear blade was too small. Luckily I had a bolt lying around that I could use. I don't know if these are usually included, but for a $600 purchase you'd think they would throw in the $5 in hardware. If I was buying at the local dealer I would have just picked it up then.

Haz,Congrats on the new Aerator,I purchaced a 48" First Choice Plugger a while back.I use it behind our BX and it works great.

Ours had no center hitch pin either, but I didn't expect it to.You can go to the First Choice web site and download an owners manual.A lot of Companies do this kind of thing now...I guess.

Hazmat, thanks for the updates, I'm having to do the aerator thing vicariously, /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif for the moment... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Dob,

I have about 2 acres of lawn. I got the 60" so I could get close to the fence etc. My 60" MMM fits everywhere I need to go.

MReeter,
Any particular reason you went with the 48" unit
and not the 60"?

Moments away from making a call to get one!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Dave,

Not to speek for MReeter, but I think the three point capacity is the limiting factor. Once I added weight to the 60" I was at 850#. This is more than the BX published capacity of 662#. You need to lift it to make tight turns.

You could run with less ballast, but will get less penetration. Might be worth your while to stop by and check it out b4 you place your order.

Well, downloaded the manual from midwest's web page. Thanks for the reminder MReeter. I guess I'll have to stop by the local dealer for the top pin. I hate /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif to visit with all those tractors & toys. I'll get a zerk at the harware store.
