why would they be checking the dna of donkey meat?

because donkey meat in China is very common. Donkey dumplings are often listed on menus of good dumpling restaurants. Just not a western norm.

Here is picture of cat stir fry. So maybe not common where we live but other cultures are just different.

I spend about 50% of my working time in China.

It common to test in china to ensure suppliers are not cheating retailers. Retailers want to make sure they get what they pay for and not something cheaper. WalMArt got cheated by a bad supplier.

Here in USA we consume something called "pink slime" on a real regular basis at places like McDoanlds, etc... and this is much more gross and much much worse than something like donkey IMHO.

Whatever the market will bear, someone will sell it. I am sure you wouldn't recognize most of the products sold in Walmart China as they sell what is needed in the area as for food products. Clothing might be somewhat similar since most of the stuff we buy is from China also.
