Hey guys,
These are common on race/drag cars but did any of you guys ever see one on a tractor?I think it would be to the tractors benefit to have oil pressure even before you start it as they can be hooked up that way.
Picture it.-Get on your machine, hit the glow plugs(if a diesel),then just before you fire it up, open up your accumulator (solenoid or manual valve)and watch the oil pressure light go off even before the engine starts !!!I'm thinking about installing one on mine.
I think it would be a great place to mount a extra oil pressure gauge also.

That would make cold winter starts amazing. Does anyone make a kit for this??

I believe all engines could benefit from oil accumulators.

Check out Moroso. Also Accusump......And it would not have to be their "top of the line" model.
I think their "economy" models would do the trick.I think its about $67 for the bare "el cheapo" 1 1/2 quart tank, but then you have to add the valve and oil lines and a gauge would be really nice. That way you could check the pressure in the tank before starting.

If you get the manual one make sure you shut the valve off while the engine is still running. believe it or not I knew a guy who spent a lot of time bith>>> about his never working, come to fine out once he opened the valve, he never closed it, I don't know how he expected it to hold any pressure.

I would love to put one of these in my Dodge CTD.

I noticed Moroso has a gravity style, I could build something like that.

I have a piece of 3" 14 ga. s/s tubing out in the garage thats just beggin to be put to use.I Tig weld for a living so i also am going top make my own.
I also came up with the idea today of having a piece of clear hose (pressure rated) along the side of the tank so i could visually see how much oil is in the(vertically mounted) tank. Then
install 1 gauge on top of the tank for tank pressure when the valve is closed,
and another in line after the valve to monitor the engine oil pressure. That way i could leave the idiot light hooked up.

make my own.
Awesome, I'm going to watch. :D

I don't tig, (well I've never tried,) I can mig, but don't want to build mine outa steel.
Thought about copper beings I braze copper in my day job (refrigeration), but finding large C tubing is difficult.
Probably end up buying a canister.

Have you thought about how your going to plumb it up ?, where you going to tap into the system ?, electric or manual valve ?

Something else to think about is a check valve somewhere so you don't back flow your filter.

Willl,
I'm glad you brought up the backflow of the filter thing, never thought about that. Also,i hav'nt thought much about where i'm going to tap into .Now this back flow thing has me worried:confused:
I saw the one way valves on the Moroso website, wondered what they were for......hummmmm.
My main reason for this idea is the cold start thing....takes my tractor about 3 full seconds on a cold start-up to shut off the idiot light, and i dont feel comfortable with that, even though my dealer (Kubota) says its normal.
Anyway,i think the instructions are available on the Moroso website.Of course,i think they are mainly considering a car oiling system.
Another problem with homemade or boughten system....how much extra oil should be allowed for because of the tank?If i do go ahead with this,i'm going to have to do some carefull checking the first time i fire it up.I dont want to flood the little three cylinder with too much oil, even though the
engine should pump it back in the tank as soon as it starts.Thats one reason for my "sight tube" idea.I'll have to think about it....Digger2
