Oil Analysis

   / Oil Analysis #11
Here's the thing. Some of the fleet operators have truck engines that take 40 quarts of oil. Every time they change the oil it's 80 or 100 bucks so a $20 test now and again is peanuts especially if they can squeeze an extra 10,000 miles out of each oil change.

Me I use 6 bucks worth of Delvac at a time, one oil analysis costs 400 hours worth of motor oil on the tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif If I though I had run it a quart low for the past 100 hours or something I would pay for an oil analysis. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You guys are paying a lot for your self interpreted analysis.

For plain analysis without professional interpretation I use the local CAT dealers pre-paid analysis kit which costs $12.00 or John Deere OilScan which costs $11.50 per kit. The .50 difference is due to the CAT sample being prepaid return postage. but the JD sample setup includes a bellows type sample bottle and 4 feet of tubing so you can sample without cracking the drain plug.

Check out bobistheoilguy.com to compare your results with others and get commentary on an oil sample you might post.
