That cost doesn't seem out of line to me. I had mine paved with hot mix ashpalt about 8 years ago. He leveled out the existing gravel drive, but didn't have to add any rock. It cost me about $7000 at that time, and costs have gone up a lot in the last few years due to the cost of oil. Mine would be around 6000 sq ft of area.

I am in western NY and my neighbor put what our gravel pit calls 1s and 0s down 5 years ago and has no problems. From what I can tell this is the same as crusher run. He did put down about 4" and there is good drainage.


That will not hold up in the north with the freeze and thaw cycles. We do the same and it last a year at most before issues arise.
