Oil change in SLT 1554

I don't trust that little plastic spout and rubber hose (I have read previous horror story posts about engine oil changes in Cubs). The setup is not as bad as MTD snowblowers, but still looks like there is a huge potential for a mess.

Has anyone used this thing to change oil in Cub Cadet lawn tractors? If so, how does it work?

The suction pump will probably do the job OK but there will be a small amount of dirty oil left on the bottom of the pan that will probably not be sucked up. I personally have had no problem using the supplied tubing and drain valve on my 3235. I like it better than the plug drain on my 1450 because I had to remove the deck to drain the oil. From what I've read in these posts, it may be harder to drain the oil on other models.

Yes those style pumps work excellent. I've used them before on automatic transmissions and boats. I will definately use one of those or a similar pump on my next 2544 oil change. You never get every drop of used oil out anyway. It's impossible unless you take apart the engine & wipe it clean! You can pour in a half a quart of new oil & pump/drain that out if you want to be really thorough.

Course, that is what the filter is for. On my non filtered Ariens 10 hp snothrower, or TB Pony tiller, I'll dump some fresh oil in until it runs clean, usually I don't need much more than 1/2 quart.

On my tractor, I figure the filter will catch most of that. Think I'll change the oil this weekend now that I'm thinking about it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
