Had a Plymouth in the '70's, big Fury 3 with HD* kits.
Was noon and my Fury was still on the lift since 0700 as they could not get the oil to stay in.
LOL, 3 hrs for an oil change!
Turned out the HD model (police, taxi) used a different filter and the dealer had none in stock plus their shop manuals were not updated to reflect that.
That big HD Fury also had weird alignment characteristics. It liked to leap over the median on divided highways as it was designed with different alignment specs for left as compared to right wheel.
A sharp alignment guy corrected that issue by duplicating the right side onto the left.

LOL, what finally got me service was the fact that I was an art supply sales rep and I took out some yellow paint and artist brush and painted a small lemon on the trunk.
Within 10 mins I got a call from the zone manager and that really shook up that dealership.
Downside was I had to walk a fair distance to have lunch and lost a half day of productivity.

*wheels were 15" vs 14" and brakes very HD., like 50% more surface.
(My employer forbade power brakes as the CEO's wife had experienced a major accident due to early version power brakes.)

FWIW I still do my own oil & maintenance @ 70 years old. Have you ever really looked and talked to the idiots in the quick change places? They're Morons !! Couldn't count to 10 with both their hands empty....

And by the time it would take to drive to one of those places, wait in line, then drive home, I could do a 500 hour fluids & filter change on the tractor! Takes about 10 minutes to do a vehicle oil change, for less than $25 (with filter of course)

When I purchased my 2016 Ram 3500, it came with free oil changes for life. I just hit 130,000 miles on it and my oil gets changed about every 13,000 miles. I guess I've had well over $1000 in free oil changes so far.

My dealer is about 40 miles away, but they have a small used car lot about 8 miles away. I go there and pick up the oil and filter then go to a locally owned 'oil change place'. I've been happy with there service. It's not a national chain such as Jiffy Lube. It's owned by a local guy and he does most of the changes himself.

I also bring my wife's Expedition and my other trucks there too.

wonder what that $1000 in oil changes actually cost you ?
I have 3 -vehicles, 2- tractors, 2- Z turn mowers, 1- ATV, 1-UTV, 2- generators. I change all the oil / filters myself.

Another consideration, most oil pans on today’s cars are alum , and the drain plugs are still steel. Bottom line there is a torque value to prevent stripping the threads on the oil pan and it is not “good and tight”
I worry about that. Is anyone using an oil extractor to avoid this? I am thinking a pump only what clips to the battery and pumps into the container I use to take the used oil to the auto store or transfer station. I am not sure what model to get. How much of the oil do they get out?

i just did not have have time to do my own oil changes pre-pandemic when the wife and I drove a lot. The local Walmart does synthetic oil chages or $49.88. Hard to beat that. The staff is mostly middle age or older guys, an occasional gal. They do a way better job than the quickie places IMHO. Maybe Walmart has better benefits?

Tractors and small equipment, I do the changes. Post retirement I may start doing the commuter vehicles again myself since I expect mileage to be way, way less.
Walmart is not to be trusted. I took my GMC 2500 in for oil and lube. My truck got zero grease. They were covered in road grime. The paperwork said my 10 ply tires had 32 psi in the 4 tires when there should have been 70 -80 psi . And the manager wanted to argue that I needed to pay for the full service. I did not and I will never go back.

I change my own oil and am therefore quite able to keep an eye on my filters, too. Can you put an air filter in backwards? You may wish to do a bit of follow up on that one. The guy may have been feeding your wife a line to get an air filter sale out of the deal and had a problem when challenged.
I want to know how you put an air filter in backwards too.

I would never take any vehicle to a quick oil change place..

1. How do you know what they say they put in (synthetic premium oil) was actually installed? Might be the cheapest recycled oil they can get...

2. Most people working in those places are just kids with no experience..

3. They upcharge for everything.

I change my own oil and filters and always will. I know what I'm putting in, do you?
