I changed mine once because the oil always looked milky. I took the top plate of of it. Sucked all the old oil out with a kerosene bulb pump. Wiped it out real good. Flushed with deisel or kerosene. There were no metal bists, no rust, no obvious water. Breather is fine. Refilled it. Still has milky oil. That was at least a year ago. Runs fine. No leaks.
