I have a DR brush mower with a Kawasaki engine. I have been following the manual regarding oil and changes. I first put in 10w30 synthetic since it was cold out when I got the machine. Two weeks ago after two hours of mowing the mower lost power. It came back up so I thought I had released the deadman switch. Last Friday the engine stalled. Long story short, on both days it was at 90-92ish in the shade. The manual said to use 10w30/40 to about 90ish. For temperatures higher than 90ish to use straight 40 weight oil. I changed it on Saturday and the engine did not stall or loose power. It did not get as hot though some I'm not sure the problem is gone.
The new oil is dino not synthetic. I was supprised there was an 40 oil. Why a 10w40 oil would not be the as good as a 40 I don't know but that is what the manual says to use. I'll use the 40 until fall and then put back the synthetic. Thankfully its real easy to change the oil on the engine.
