I now have 20 hours on a new PT425 delivered at the beginning of July. So far it has been great using the PT425. One possible concern that I have is that having reached 20 hours I now realize that I have added a quart of oil over the last three weeks to the engine. I was wondering what others have experienced with the Kohler engines oil consumption.

I've never added any to my PT425, except at oil change, in a little over 100 hours. In my opinion, it should not be using that much oil. I'd start looking for very small leaks somewhere.

Kludge,

When I first got my 425, it too used about a quart of oil in the first 25 hours or so. In the first 5 hours, it used almost a third of a quart. However, after about 50 hours or so, it stopped using oil. Some initial oil consumption is normal for engine break in. However, not all engines, even of the same type, use oil during break in. Don't know why some do and some don't. I would keep a close eye on it. I wouldn't be too concerned yet. I suspect it will stop soon.

Thanks for the feedback. I had already looked the engine over and could not find any leaks. I will keep an eye on the oil usage to see if it drops off after 50 hours or so.
