Still a little confused. The manual stats to use Permatran 821XL for both the front axle and transmission/hydraulic. Specs for 821XL state it is 10W30. Isn't the front axle more like 80W90?

Yes, it is confusing, but that is what most small tractors come with right from the factory. The dealer tells me that it's to reduce any mixups at the factory. ie Either engine oil hose or hydraulic oil hose to do the factory fills. Kinda makes sense, but who knows. So what I did with my Kioti CK30 was change the front axle fluid to Amsoil Severe Gear 75w110 gear oil at the first 50 hour service. When you use the FEL like I do it's peace of mind to have a gear lube protecting the front axle during heavy use rather than just the lighter hydraulic fluid. Order it with your next Amsoil engine oil and maybe get free shipping if your order is big enough, seeing that you're a preferred customer? Here's a link to all the various viscosities. I'm due for to change the hydraulic fluid/filter in my 1723E. I have researched the forums to see if substituting a different hydraulic oil instead of the the Permatran 821XL is acceptable. I stopped by my dealer and spoke to the service manager asking for the appropriate fluid. He said they use ARGuard Premium Universal Fluid from the American Refining Group. He also said it meets all specs for use in the GC1723E. He also went on to say that "We use this in all our equipment" (they sell Massey, Kioti and several other lawn care brands, plus rent heavy equipment).

The back label of the container notes it is recommended for Agco-Allis Power Fluid 821XL (and several other brands hydraulic fluid), plus it was $74 for 5 gallons a significant savings over the Permatran. If anyone is looking for a substitute for the Permatran fluid, this one may be one to look at.

factory fill on 99% of front wheel assist tractors will be the same fluid as is in the transmission. Myself, I run 85-140 GL5 gear oil in my front axles for the better shock loading capabilities but it's a personal choice, least in my application.

M1 0w30 ESP is less expensive than Amsoil and would be even better.

Maybe check out the comparisons to other oils? At the very least Amsoil was the first synthetic automotive oil commercially available to the general public, and the rest is history...
