So I have been reading over my B2920 manuals, and checking things over before I actually start to use it. This is going to sound outright crazy, but it has me stumped.

Standing in front of the tractor, and looking into the engine bay, I see the oil filler cap on top of the valve cover as usual. To the left of that, and down closer to the ground, is another cap about the same size that also says "oil" on it.

What is the second one for?:confused2::confused2::laughing::laughing:

On these engines you will often find two, the one lower down is the one to use, if you use the one on the top, you have to fill very very slowly, otherwise the oil will overflow the head into whatever it can get into, such a cylinders, valves, lifters exe... It all depends what it can get into, so generally not a great idea.

I'm :confused: Confused! Your saying if someone adds oil to the top of the valve cover that it's going to get into places that it shouldn't?? such as "the oil will overflow the head into whatever it can get into, such a cylinders, valves, lifters exe... "

Humm, My Grand L has an oil filler cap on top of engine, the much lower one facing tractor on left side is the oil cap that is actually the dip stick to check oil. But oil goes in on the top of engine, do you have an operators manual?

In short , yes and no, I'm no expert on kubotas but it's something we are seeing quiet a bit of, that head designs have changed and there is like a small oil pan in the top which is where the excess oil goes after lubricating the top of the engine, this is all fine during normal operation, as it's a small quantity of oil, what happens though when filling, is you can pour oil in at a faster rate than it can drain through to the sump, as such it overflows with the above mentioned potential consequences. As such this is why we are now seeing manufacturers placing the second filler on the side. Really it all comes down to how fast you pour the oil in. If you go slowly then the top fill would be fine, if not then probably use the side. I would expect we will eventually see this top one disappear have done already on some of the newer engines being released, but at the moment manufacturers haven't re-tooled. Best thing is to ask your dealer as the will know if a service bulletin was released, I know we've got them for kioti, LS & Ferrari so I'm just assuming the same for the kub's as really they are no different.

I should also point out, that on most European / American engines this isn't a problem as they haven't cut corners when designing them so the usual top fill is still there.

You can use either fill with NO problems!

I must correct you in that adding oil to the top fill will NOT cause oil to get into areas it is not meant to be!

The reason for the 2 fills is this;

These engines are used for many applications (not just Bseries) such as Generators, Small vessels etc etc and either fill may or may not be accessible depending on configuration!

They both happen to be accessible on bseries

Hope this clears this up!
