Oil Filter Frustration

I have a stuck oil filter tool that works everytime. A 2 fisted screw driver with a grounded point on it. I drive it through the filter and unscrew the stuck filter like a tire lug using the screw driver as a lug wrench so to speak. Works everytime.

I actually tried that with the filter on my Silverado last time (I put it on and I did oil the seal and I didn't over torque) and the only thing that happened was the metal casing on the oil filter started ripping. I ended up having to use the oil filter pliers like I had originally planned, but can't remember why I didn't....

If you have the room.. I use a small pipe wrench.

Small pipe wrench? Ho-Boy! If a pipe wrench to fit a filter is small, I'd love to see what you call a big one.;)

When you put that oilfilter on make sure it is hand tight. Trun that filter by hand as tight as you get it, but dont use that oilfilter wrench. Sine then I don't have trouble getting these darrn oil filters off!

Hi DieselMonk,
Most oil filters state the obvious right on the side of the filter :)

Hey all, I know the manual say 6.3 qts. is the capacity including filter for TC40/45, but what do you all put in based on the size of filters they now use or was that before my model when they changed the filter size? Would only 6 qts. be sufficient? I notice I was a touch above full today after adding approx. 6.3 last night. Yes I've ran the tractor. I thought about draining it a touch, but probably will not.

Anybody got any opinions on my last post?

Greg, if your tractor is capable of doing what I am doing in the attachment and not sucking oil into the #1 and #2 cylinders, then a little oil above the full mark on the dipstick should not matter. If I could have gotten off the tractor to check the oil without sliding down, I imagine the dipstick would have read at least 3 quarts low with all the oil in the front of the pan. Don't think that didn't run through my mind while I was doing this. I kept my ears peeled for any unusual sound and my eyes open for any unusual smoke coming from the exhaust.

Haa, that's a good seat you have there Jim.:D I rememeber seeing those pics awhile ago when you were cutting the silt out. Quite amazing of how much silt you removed that was accumulated over how many years do you think?

I bet the tractor wasn't to dirty and dusty after that job huh? :)

Yeah I'm not going to worry about my oil being a touch to full. Thanks for the reassurance guys.
