Oil Filter housing

Today i broke a fitting off the oil filter housing, its the two lines that goes in the top of the oil filter housing, but engine oil didnt come out of it, it was either water or hydraulic fluid, it was dark and hard to tell, i shut it down when i seen what look like steam coming from it, and took the whole filter housing off in the dark with a small flash light, when i had it off i turn it upside down and water and oil came out of it, but the engine oil was its own black color, it wasnt grey colored like oil and water is mixed together. I will take it up to the Mahindra place early tomorrow morning. Just wondering what the two lines are going in the top of the oil filter housing. Anyone know.
This is a Mahindra 5500 4wd.

Good question tractorboy5500,
What you have located by accident is the oil cooler on your tractor. The housing directly above your oil filter has engine coolant flowing over cooling plates to cool the engine oil. Hope this clarifies what you are seing.

Yes, thats makes alot of sense, at least its not water in the oil like i thought, now i have to see how much coolant i lost, i found were it happen last night and run it about 5 mins or less senced it happen, the engine temp never showed hot. The only thing i need now is a new oil filter housing, iam sure they wont have one in stock and have to wait a few days. At least what you told me made me feel better, thanks.

I called the dealer and didnt have one, told them i was in a real bind for it, they said they can do an emergency order and have the order in by mid day and i can go pick it up at Mahindra usa which is about 35 min from my house, its was and extra $25, but its well worth it right now, the part was $91 which wasnt to bad. Guess i can call that realy good service and helpful on the dealer end. The dealer is Top Flight Trailer sales in Conroe TX.

I think I remember seeing your tractor at Top Flight. Did your wife surprise you with it. Dang, if it is you, your tractor couldn't have many hours on it. I have ordered a part before from Top Flight, and drove down and picked it up at Mahindra's parts warehouse. But what is this extra $25?:confused2::confused2: They should pay you to pick up a part they tacked a lot of extra dollars on? Have the order in by mid day?:confused2::confused2: I stand there as they call and order it and they tell the guy Brandi will pick it up!Go to Bills Tractor in San Antonio and use his parts manual. Type in your part number and see where it goes and how much Bill charges customers for the same thing.
I priced an oil filter, two fuel filters, one transmission and one hydraulic filter, along with a steering reservoir filter and would have saved $25 after shipping when comparing Bill's prices to Top Flight's prices

I did go through Top Flight to pay for the part.
I did get the part put on and all worked out good, when filling up with coolant it only took a gallon, i do think the cooling system is abot 3 gallons.
I am not the one where the wife bought me a tractor, I do remember the story, it was all good, but it wasnt me.

So glad to hear you got her running. I still think the $25 dollar fee stinks. If they ever try that with me, I will walk out the door. I can be a stubborn Aggie like my Dad was!:thumbsup:
